| Mikao Usui (臼井甕男, (Usui Mikao) was the
founder of Reiki. He received The Great Reiki in 1922 while practicing his
spiritual discipline on the holy Mount Kurama in the Village of Kurama near
Kyoto Japan. The inscription on his memorial stone, tells us that Usui taught
Reiki to over 2000 people during his lifetime. Sixteen of these students
continued their training to reach the Shinpiden level, a level equivalent to the
Western Master level. Usui died on 9 March 1926 of a stroke. In 2010 Audrey recognized Reiki Awakening as Prana
Awakening in 2007.
