The Usui Reiki Lineage Usui
Reiki was named after Sensei
Mikao Usui, a Japanese visionary who awakened to Reiki via direct energetic
transmission after 21 days contemplating the keys to healing he’d found in
ancient Sanskrit texts. He went on to transmit energetic awakening to Source,
Rei-consciousness Itself and Ki sacred life force energy (Reiki) to Dr.
Chujiro Hayashi. Dr Hayashi then initiated Hawayo Takata who became the
lineage bearer for what is now known world wide as Traditional Usui Reiki.
Hawayo Takata initiated
Barbara Lincoln McCullough as a Reiki Master, who initiated Judy-Carol
Stewart as the 35th Reiki Master. Judy-Carol initiated Libby Barnett. Libby
Barnett initiated Audrey Pearson into traditional Usui Reiki. Audrey's
(Devdasi’s) approach to presenting Reiki comes as a result of in-depth
study and practices of Consciousness aligned with Prana. It is through
dedication to her own awakening that the ultimate understanding of Reiki was revealed to her
to share
with others.
The story of the Usui Takata Lineage When Mikao Usui, a Japanese Monk, sought
insight into the healing mysteries of the great historic healers/teachers, he
received the guidance in the form of Sacred Symbols and their names. On instruction from his counselor and head
Abbot, it is said he traveled to the holy Mountain
of Kurama near Osaka
Japan
for 21 days, to contemplate the knowledge transmitted in the symbols and names,
and to ask for guidance on how to use them.
Because Reiki was an oral tradition there are varying accounts of Dr
Usui’s journey. It is said that he kept count of the 21 days by tossing off one
stone a day. Tossing off the last stone
he was struck by a blinding vision which energetically revealed the Master key
unlocking the mystery of consciousness and sacred life energy. This was Dr. Usui’s own Attunement to ReiKi
and to the rediscovery of what today we call Usui Reiki in his honor. Dr Usui began healing with and teaching
others in the mysteries of Reiki. He
empowered others to access Reiki through the application of creating the sacred
Reiki symbols and through chanting the sacred resonating name of each symbol.
He empowered his students to apply Reiki to themselves and ‘synergistically to
others.
One of
Sensei Usui’s most prominent Reiki students and initiated Reiki Masters was
medical doctor Chujiro Hayashi. After
his initiation, Dr. Hayashi, and Dr Usui practiced Reiki at Hayashi’s medical
clinic in Tokyo.
It was there, after Usui’s death, that Dr Hayashi trained Mrs. Hawayo Takata, a
Japanese American woman who was in Japan at the time. She was visiting
family in Tokyo
while seeking medical attention at the Hayashi clinic for a serious ailment.
She was cured of her dis-ease through Reiki and thus she wanted to learn how
she could access Reiki healing for her and others. In order to receive Reiki initiation,
Dr Hayashi had her stay and train at his clinic for a year. After her training
she returned to Hawaii
with the gift of Reiki. She is perhaps
the most famous western Reiki Master and she only trained 22 Reiki Masters
before her death in 1980. One of the 22 was Barbara Lincoln McCullough. Barbara
trained Judy-Carol Stewart as the 35th Reiki Master in the
West. Judy-Carol Stewart trained Libby
Barnett. Audrey Pearson (Devdasi) received her Reiki Master initiation through
Libby Barnett.
Mrs. Takata
and perhaps Dr Hayashi can be credited with introducing the Attunement process,
which is time honored as a sacred energetic transmission ceremony.
Mrs.
Takata’s Reiki society continues today headed by her daughter Phyllis Lei Furumoto, who started the Reiki Alliance.
